Practice plan for Tea

Your state sets the hours. Where you spend them is up to you. What’s around Tea to practice on, and when:

Roads to practice on

Highways
I-29, I-90, I-229 and US-18 within 15 miles. Save the first merge for a quiet Sunday morning on I-29: one on-ramp, one exit, and back. Then add a weekday at a busier time.
Traffic signals
73 signalized intersections within 5 miles. Plenty of material for unprotected left turns: signals with no green arrow.
Roundabouts
4 within 5 miles. Practice yielding at entry and choosing the lane before you’re in it.
Gravel roads
Unpaved roads within 15 miles. Loose surfaces brake and steer differently. Practice at low speed before it’s a surprise.
The six driving environments to cover

Seasons and light

Snow
About 49 inches a year. After the first real snowfall, find an empty lot and practice braking and recovering from a slide.
Rain
61 days a year with measurable rain or snow. Count a wet drive as its own lesson: longer following distance, earlier braking.
Daylight
Earliest sunset 4:50 p.m. (December 6); latest 9:11 p.m. (June 19). Night hours are easiest to log from November through January, when the drive home after 5:02 p.m. is already in the dark.
